Mecki Mark Men
Started 66 or 67 by Mecki Bodemark. Made an album 67, named
"Mecki Mark Men". Label Philips Sonora. Released in the US by Mercury records.
MMM style were avantgardistic jazz-rock.
In spring 68, after MMM had been dissolved, Mecki joined
BabyGrandMothers, which then became Mecki Mark Men.
This band was the frontiers of avantgardistic music in Sweden at that time.
All kinds of happenings were supported by MMM.
HAIR
In August 68, rehearsals started for hippie musical HAIR, in Stockholm, Sweden.
This show was the second in the world, after New York. It played for six months,
and MMM was the band, doing performing and the music. That was a time of hope and belief in future.
Harmony and understanding...
THE ROYAL OPERA
Autumn 1969 we were asked to be a part of a modern piece of opera at the Royal House of Opera in Stockholm.
It was a show named "RESAN", The Journey. Composer Lars-Johan Werle.
15 solists, the whole choir, the giant orchestra, four percussionists, and a rock band, us.
The set was giant boxes on which we stood on one, the percussionists had a box each,
and the boxes were lit from behind på projectors, that made the scene change.
The boxes were about four by four meters cubics.
AMERICA
1968 our album "Running in the summernight" was released also in USA by Mercury Rec. At that time we happend to get in touch
with an English promotor, who had some contact with people in US.
And so we manageds to go over there for a minor tour, and some gigs in pub/club places.
We played at some venues together with The Birds, Sly and the family Stone, Jethtro Tull...
We also recorded our, as it turned out to be, last album there.
Chess Studios in South side Chicago. That was a great experience for us four young boys from Sweden.
You could really feel the ambience in the rooms and walls.
It was a bit of a hard time though, because we were totally out of MONEY.
How to survive in USA without MONEY, is another story.
Anyway, we, or rather our manager, succeeded to get us back home to
dear old Sweden, after charming the staff of FinnAir to let us go on a "go-now-pay-later"-basis.
After a couple of years the Chicago album finally was released by Sonet.
The name of the album is "Marathon".
Not long after returning to Sweden the band broke up.
